Let’s get 2021 off to a Ruff start. And a Fluff one. It is time to reveal the pupticipants in Puppy Bowl XVII, which aims to provide cuddly canine comfort whilst raising awareness for pet adoption. This year’s game — which, as always, features dogs scurrying around a mini-field, sorta playing football by carrying chew toys across goal lines — can be seen on Discovery+ and Animal Planet on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 7) at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. The three-hour event, which includes a Kitty Halftime Show, will see Team Ruff and Team Fluff (whose series record is tied up at 3-3) competing for the Lombarky trophy in a stadium within a stadium. Seventy puppies from 22 shelters and rescues will hit the field, with Monday Night Football play-by-play announcer Steve Levy and SportsCenter host Sage Steele providing commentary, referee Dan Schachner calling penalties such as “premature watering of the field,” and celebs including Kristen Bell and Valerie Bertinelli assisting with the adoption process. (There will be opportunities during the game to adopt dogs from 11 additional shelters.) But enough human words. Time for puppy photos. Start scrolling to pick your pre-game Most Valuable Pup.
