Some Ghanaian politicians have accepted their leadership’s decision to postpone Parliament’s sessions for three weeks due to a coronavirus outbreak.

In the current scenario, according to the parliamentarians, the step aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19 in the house is the strongest.

It is confirmed that seventeen MPs and over 150 workers have tested positive for the virus.

Dr. Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South, officially called last week for Parliament to be shut down for at least two weeks due to an outbreak of the virus in the Chamber.

Habib Iddrisu, the Deputy Majority Chief whip, told Citi News that the House would be fumigated in their absence

He said this growth is actually going to be a positive thing, considering the weeks missed.

“It is good that we suspend sessions by looking at how numbers are skyrocketing, it is good that members of Parliament go into isolation, and it is good that we submit ourselves to further testing after two weeks.”

“After that, there will be strict measures, very strict measures that will ensure that, because of this pandemic, Parliament will not be suspended again,” he added.

On March 2, 2021, the House is scheduled to resume business.

But starting today, Wednesday, February 10, 2021, the Appointments Committee will be allowed to vet ministerial candidates.
