On Kaneshie-Odorkor highway, police shoot down two alleged robbers

Following a shooting at the Renault and Hyundai Car Company located at Atico Junction along the Kaneshie-Odorkor highway in Accra on Wednesday, police shot down two alleged armed robbers.

Later, one of the deceased robbers was named as Bright Nyarko, a former business worker.

The command reported that its men were put ahead of the intelligence-based incident and interfered during the robbery assault.

Any of the items confiscated from them include one automatic weapon with 5 rounds of 9 mm ammunition and a cash amount of GHS3,650.0 for the victim’s wallet.

Around 5:30 pm when the cashier came out with the regular sales of the company’s Renault division to bring the same to the company’s Hyundai store, the robbers hurried and pulled out a gun on her and robbed her of the handbag containing the sales money of the company. “The police team that was close to the scene moved in and intervened,” said DSP Effia Tenge, the Public Affairs Officer of the Accra Regional Police Headquarters.

A separate police statement said sensing risk, the robbers engaged the police in a shoot out, and two of the robbers suffered gunshot wounds in the process and were rushed for treatment to the police hospital, but they were pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.

“The rest were forced to flee. The robbers retrieved one automatic weapon with 5 rounds of 9mm bullets, and the victim’s wallet containing a cash amount of GHS3,650.00. Later, one of the deceased robbers was named as Bright Nyarko, 24, a former company worker.

The other dead person has not been found yet. Both corpses are preserved for storage, identification and autopsy at the Police Hospital morgue. The gun with 5 ammo rounds and the bag containing the sum listed above have been found, the police added in the announcement.
